There she worked as a nurse for six years until she also died from tuberculosis at the age of twenty-nine after being confined to her bed for eight months. In 1922, at the age of thirty-six, Maria Faustina began experiencing heavenly visions at night while asleep. They were visions that later became known as "the Divine Revelations". The first one took place on May 31, 1922 and lasted for three hours.

The vision revealed a great work which would be accomplished by a woman who would not be able to walk but would rather be carried by angels. The second revelation came at Easter on April 17, 1923 and lasted three hours and twenty minutes. It revealed that the woman who would carry the message of God's love for humanity would be named "Blessed Teresa".

A third revelation followed on September 3, 1923 revealing that the woman who would help those who were abandoned by society would be called "Mother Teresa" (from Latin: "mater" = mother; "teresa" = helper). The revelation also revealed that she would give her name as "Maria". Finally on October 11th, 1924 Maria Faustina Kowalska received her fourth revelation which announced that her mission was completed and it would now be time for Jesus Christ to take over her mission and begin his revelation through her as his chosen emissary on earth. On December 10th, 1925 Maria Faustina received one last vision revealing that Blessed Teresa's mission had been fulfilled and Jesus Christ wished to begin his mission through another woman with similar attributes to Blessed Teresa until such time as he could find someone greater than her.

This revelation marked the beginning of what is now known as her last period
